Ram Gopal Varma had proudly proclaimed a few days back that he has made a lot of technical innovations in his latest movie ‘Department’ and that he had used cameras in all odd places like the carom board striker, coffee spoon, car steering etc. Is ‘Department’ just a hollow vessel with only the aforementioned technical gimmicks or is there some stuff as well? Read on to find out.

In a nutshell, this movie is about a separate department within the police force that is given all the powers to fight Mumbai’s two primary gangster units (Sawatya’s and Mohammad Gauri’s). This department is basically an encounter squad and all the stakeholders in this department have gray shades be it Sarjerao Gaikwad, a gangster-turned politician (played by the Big B) or Inspector Mahadev Bhosle, the leader of this department squad (played by Sanjay Dutt). An honest young cop Shivnarayan (Rana) is also part of this squad and he learns the tricks of the department as the movie wears on. Whether the prime gangsters are brought to task and whether Shiv manages to retain his honesty is the remaining part of the movie.

The only entertaining aspect of ‘Department’ is the Big B’s electric screen presence, voice modulation and inimitable style. The screen sparkles whenever he is there. Rana looks the part convincingly as the rugged cop though his emoting skills are better left unanalyzed. There are blatant changes in Sanjay Dutt’s looks during the course of the movie. He is seen with a baseball cap for the majority of the movie while his hair suddenly appears thick in certain scenes and barren in other scenes. Guess, his hair transplant coincided with this movie’s shooting days. Madhu Shalini looks seducing as the female gangster while her muse in the movie, Abhimanyu Singh is a mere caricature compared to his terrific show in Raktha Charitra. Vijay Raaz is a natural in whatever role he does and it’s the same here too as Sawatya. Anjana Sukhani and Lakshmi Manchu have miniscule parts as the wives of the lead cops

There is a very crude item number in the first half inspired by Ilayaraja’s yesteryear chartbuster. The picturization of this song will make even the young male members in the audience squirm in their seats. Such is the level of skin shown in this song.  There are 2 other songs which do nothing to the movie’s flow.

The previously mentioned technical gimmicks with the camera are nothing but indulgences on RGV’s part. It’s just a case of an empty vessel making more noise. The frequent close-ups, jump cuts, pans, tracks, tilts, zooms etc. get to your head pretty soon.

To conclude, Department is a pretty boring movie save for the Big B’s presence. Such action movies need the lead hero to be at his invincible best. But, here Sanjay Dutt is just a shadow of his former self and inspite of Rana’s action hero looks, he is not a known face in Hindi by any means. RGV has not concentrated on the core of any movie i.e. the content and just embellished it with crude item numbers and atrocious camera angles. Such movies deserve the cold shoulder.

Story

An emotional tale, the movie is set on the backdrop of 1948 Nelakondapalli village in Adilabad district. Lakshmamma (Sneha) is the mother of an infant girl child Mallamma (Baby Annie) who leaves her into a river like Kunti did to Karna for the fear of Razakars chasing to kill. Lakshmamma gets killed. Mallamma is rescued by Sambayya, a village man who nurtures her like his grand daughter like Kanva did for Shakunthala. Sambayya knows that Mallamma is the daughter of Lakshmamma and Rajanna(Nagarjuna) a great freedomn fighter against British and also the rescuer of them from unscrupulous doras of gadis. The girl Mallamma is good at singing since childhood. But dorasani (Sweta Menon) hates that. She orders her not to sing and punishes severely. Then the girl goes to Delhi to complaint to PM Nehru. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Nagarjuna comes out with one of his best performances in his career. His act is commendable with an inspiring role. He looks inspiring and strong enough with his toned up muscles. Sneha as usual looks homely and has a sensuous look in a song. Annie’s role is the highlight for the film. She surely deserves an award for this one.

Telangana Shakuntala and Alapati Lakshmi appeared in short but notable roles. Ajay, Pradeep Rawat and Supreet are also guests with reasonable roles. Model Sreedhar excelled surprisingly and even Sweta Menon is at her best. Ravi Kale who is widely seen in Bollywood films appeared in a local dora’s role.

Rajanna takes us to a trip back into the Razakars’ era. Hearts melt and eyes spill tears, while we watch the first half. One has to appreciate the efforts put in by Rajamouli and his team in pumping in emotion in key sequences. Yes, the film might been directed by Vijayendra Prasad, father of Rajamouli, but the ace director’s deft handling of the project was clearly evident. Especially, the action sequences, the tyranny of feudal lords in Gadis and the atrocities perpetrated by the cronies of Nizam on the people of Telangana ignite the spirit of patriotism among the audience. Dialogues are crisp. Cinematography is excellent.

The first half is shouldered by little girl Annie in the role of Mallamma and Nagarjuna enters the screen just a few moments before interval. His entry scene – with British chaining the hero like they had done for Katta Bommanna – might create a feeling of hackneyed screenplay, but as the story runs, his character gets elevated. He seldom fights but instigates people to fight against tyranny.

Conclusion

After Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu, Nagarjuna comes out with yet another great performance. Another jewel in his crown to boast of.

Rajanna is an excellent movie to experience Telugu history. As a matter of fact, the film hasn’t shown too much of the atrocities committed by the Razakars on native people but, it just shows the glimpses of them, like a few shocking scenes such as weighing the breasts of women with money. Censor board needs to be appreciated for allowing such bold scenes on screen with due respect to history.

On a whole, Rajanna deserves patronage and is a well made film for its content and bold depiction of history.

Sangarshana Review – Sangharshana Movie Review, Porali Rating, Tamil Movie: Director Samuthirakani who made Shambo Shiva Sambho in Telugu roped in Allari Naresh for his latest film Porali, which has Sasi Kumar playing the main lead. This was dubbed in Telugu as Sangarshana. This team has carved a niche for themselves and their films carry super positive buzz in Tamilnadu. What is Telugu audience response for this movie…

Story:

Kumar (Sasi Kumar) and Vikram (Naresh) comes out of nowhere to Hyderabad and settles down in a house in a closed compound. Kumar is very friendly with his neighbors and they turn his best buddies. Kumar starts a small business and helps the needy neighbors. Bharati (Swathi) falls for his generous nature and loves him. Vikram fall in love with Bala Saraswathi. When everything is going smooth for them, in comes a twist in the tale. Few people come and attack Kumar and Vikram and say that they are mentally challenged and they have ran away from a mental institution. What’s the story behind them and how they solve their problems follows.

Analysis:

Samuthirakani tried to focus on the animal side of people in this film. He shows how few people turn innocent persons into mad ones for their benefits. Sangharshana has a strong plot and good characters, but it gets over melodramatic and heavy in the second hour.

First half of the film is entertaining and leaves a good impression. But as per the story, Samudrakani has to give up on entertainment completely. The second hour is in complete contrast to the first half and therefore the film goes on and on in a boring fashion.

Although the idea is laudable, it couldn’t entertain the audience due to overdose melodrama. It might appeal to Tamil audience as Sasi Kumar is a known face. Our audience will watch out for Allari Naresh and he has minimal role to play in the second hour.

Performances:

Sasi Kumar is good. He did a decent job as an actor. He carried off the character very well. Allari Naresh is terrific. He kept the spirits up whenever he is on screen. However, a limited role in the second half will disappoint Telugu audience. Swathi is cute. She has come up with a matured performance. All others are alright in their characters.

Technicalities:

Technically the film is excellent except for the songs. Sundar’s background score is an asset. Kadhir cinematography is brilliant and Super Subbarayan’s fights are natural and raw. Production values are pretty good. Samudrakani did a decent job as the director. The plot which he tried to exploit is very complex but he tried to simplify it. He got the emotions right and once again proved that he is a good director in bringing out the best from his star cast.

Final Word:

Lack of nativity would be the major concern for this film. Allari Naresh and Swathi may find it difficult to pull it off against all the odds.

Ram get a Challenge from Sonu Sood to Prove that Hansika also Love him, Ram trying hard for that in the Mea Time Ram Face a New trouble Called Aksha ( Sandhya) who loves Ram at her first sight and ask her Father to merry him, Aksha father is also a Don In tat city, So how ram face the Struggles, Who is going to Mrry ram is the rest of The Story.

Analysis :
Kandireega is Looks like a Routine Love Story with same old Formula, hero Fol the Villians with Tricks and Playes. We Watch so Many Movies like This (Dhee, Ready and Brundavanam etc)
The first alf goes Nice with comedy and Entertainment, in the First half ram doing Fight after fight to Show his Heroism.
After that we Get some Comedy. Director able to enterain audiance with some Comedy scenes and songs.
Heroines are also looks like the Crowd Pullars.

Performances :
Ram did Well in Mass Touched character. Director Did Well for His Characterization.
Hansika did Well but some Scenes Ram Looks younger than Hansika.
Aksha Did Well.
Sonu Sood Excell in his performence.
Jaya prakash reddy Did well.
Brahmanandam gives his Top range Performence.

Tehnicalities :
Dialouges are To Good in Some Comedy Scenes and better in the conversations between Ram and Sonu Sood.
Thaman once Again give Awesome Music.
cinematography by Andrew is Good.
Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao Editing was Good.
Production Values are also Good.

Dhada Movie has High Level Star and Technical Crew, But it Has a poor Script. Dhada is Looks Stylish Movie But Screenplay is Not so Good. Dhada is Famliar Movie But it Irrits Audians From the Beginning. But The Movie Looks so rich but Very Slow in Screenplay. In the Second Half Directr Try his Best but Not Successed. Music is Good. Kajal Agarwal is the plus in the Movie But it Doesn’t matters.

Performence :
Naga Chaitanya wants to Prove himself as a Mass hero But He Need to work Much Harder. His Dialouge delivery is his Minus. Over All he gave a Ok performence.
Kajal Agarwal perform well but his Makeup lok so Embarrassing. Direcor try show her as a Barbie Doll Its Completely going wrong
Rahul dev chractariztion is Not so good.
Kelly Dorjee is Ok.
Sri ram looks Ok.
Sameeksha Doing Character rles From this Movie Onwards.
Brahmanandam do his Best. But Comedy of this movie is So So.

Story :

Most of the Directors these days tryinng to show the Mass Characters under slum Area Background. In Sega Also Director Fallow the same factor. In this movie Every Thing Looks Predictable which make film Boaring. The Lady Director Fail to Get the Romance and Friendship Bonding. Karthi and Bindu madhavi Love Get a Sad Ending will Give Audian a Little Uncomfortabulity.
The Action Scene also Looks so Normal. There is Nothing Special in This Movie. Audiance must Egarly Waiting for Break to Escape from Theaters.

Karthik Performence is Good but It seems like Some Over Action for telugu Audiance.
Muthu kumar Action was Suparb as Nani Brother.
Jennifer’s Ammaji Character is Weak.
Nitya Menon Done Her Job Well.

Joshua Sridar Music is So Nice. Background Score is Good.
Prakash Cinematography is Awesome.
Editing is ok by Anthony.
Director Anjana is a Good Technician but she Failed with Lack of Skills in Direction Department.
